Oro Valley, AZ was recently named the 2013 “Best Place to Raise Kids in Arizona” by Bloomberg Business Week. For one local mom, Oro Valley is not just a great place to raise her kids, but also a great place to create art with them. After years of making art together, Jennifer Vigil and her three children Alex, Andrew, and Maya, formed Maya Art Studio. The family works in a variety of media, including ceramics, glass, mixed media, sculpture, painting, and drawing. Jennifer works primarily in clay. Alex, a college student at University of Arizona, sculpts, draws and paints, while Andrew, who is in high school, works in ceramics and drawing. The youngest, Maya, for whom the studio was named, makes jewelry, ceramics and fused glass. Since Tucson is home to one of the largest annual gem and mineral shows, the rest of family also dabbles in jewelry. To purchase artwork from Maya Art Studio, visit the Vigil family at one of the local art shows or check out their Etsy shop. The next show they are participating in is the Tucson Open Studio Tour. On April 13-14, from 11am to 5pm, those participating in the studio tour will have the opportunity to visit Maya Art Studio, view art demonstrations, and purchase some of the family’s recent work. If you purchase artwork from Maya Art Studio that you need to ship, trust the Oro Valley AIM Mail Center to package and ship your items. The friendly professionals can even help you compare shipping rates to find the best rate and service for shipping your new artwork.
