More Ways to Ship: Business Services

Business postal services are essential for the success of any commercial enterprise. But what should you know about mail services for businesses? Discover a few quick postal options that will help you reduce your business's mail service problems.

Postage Stamps

Postage stamps are sold at Post Offices, through the mail, and online. Postage rates depend on the weight, size and shape of your mail piece. In addition to the postage cost, extra fees, such as handling charges, may be applied to your package. These vary depending on what kind of service you use and how much it weighs.

Global Express

Global Express Guaranteed (GXG) is a premium, expedited delivery service that provides guaranteed, time-definite overnight delivery to most destinations worldwide. With GXG, your shipment can be delivered on the next business day in more than 200 countries and territories.

Parcel Post

Parcel Post is an affordable way to ship packages weighing less than 70 lbs. This option costs less per pound than other options, but may take longer because packages travel by ground transportation. However, international parcel postings are delivered through air freight.

Metered Mail

This is a good option for business mail. Metered mail is a flat rate for mailing a letter or card that can be used for letters and cards up to 1/4 inch thick. If you'r e sending a thicker envelope, buy an oversized envelope instead of metered mail.

First Class Mail

This is the most basic form of mail, typically used for sending letters, postcards and other small items. The maximum size is 15" x 12" x 1/2". If you need to know whether your item will fit into these dimensions, Find an AIM Mail Centers Near You to know more before mailing it.

Priority Mail

Priority Mail is a flat-rate service offering the fastest delivery in the United States. It takes between two and three days to arrive at its destination. It's available for both packages and letters and can be purchased for international shipping. Depending on how quickly you need your package delivered, you can also choose from several shipping options.

Media Mail

Media Mail is another flat rate option for domestic shipping, though its slower speed means that it works best for books, magazines and other printed media. If you're mailing DVDs or CDs (or anything else not on the list), use First Class instead.

Express Mail

Express Mail delivers overnight and other expedited shipping services However, there are restrictions as to what can be mailed via this method:

  • Any item over 13 oz (368 g) must be sent by certified mail
  • All items must fit into an envelope measuring 6" x 12" x 4" (15 cm x 30 cm x 10 cm).
  • No items weighing more than 70 lbs (32 kg) are allowed in an Express Mail package or envelope

Certified Mail

Certified mail comes with a return receipt request. You can use this option if you want the sender to be able to track your package as it travels through the postal system and has proof of delivery. A return receipt is a piece of paper attached to an envelope by the postal clerk.

It contains information about who sent it, when, and where it was mailed from. It also has a space for an addressee's signature, which can be used as proof that someone received a package even if they didn't sign for it when they got home.

Military Mail

Military mail is provided to the United States Armed Forces and their dependents. AIM Mail Centers delivers mail to military installations worldwide using this service, often referred to as military post or simply the post office. APO/FPO addresses are postal addresses for military personnel serving overseas.
