Baton Rouge, Louisiana has an expanding arts scene, centered in downtown Baton Rouge. Two of the main art venues in Baton Rouge are the Shaw Center for the Arts and the Louisiana Art and Science Museum (LASM). Throughout Baton Rouge, there are several smaller art galleries that feature a variety of local art. Residents and visitors to Baton Rouge can also see local art at the Baton Rouge Arts Market.
A project of the Arts Council of Greater Baton Rouge, the Baton Rouge Arts Market is an open-air market and cultural event featuring more than 60 artists from Louisiana, Mississippi, Texas, and Florida. With a wide variety of art available to browse and purchase, art lovers are sure to find something new. Artists will be offering items like paintings, sculptures, stained glass, blown glass, photographs, pottery, woodwork and more. Since the artists have to create what they sell at the Arts Market, visitors have the opportunity to chat with the artists who created the pieces they love. For those who have children, the Baton Rouge Arts Market offers fun activities for children to participate in.
Located at 5th and Main Street in downtown Baton Rouge, the Baton Rouge Arts Market is held from 8 a.m. until 12 noon on the first Saturday of each month (excluding January and May) and the first three Saturdays in December. The Arts Market is held in conjunction with the weekly Red Stick Farmers Market and the 6-Day-A-Week Main Street Market.
