Sperling’s BestPlaces, a research firm that specializes in livability rankings, recently released their list of “Stressful Cities,” which includes several Southern California cities.  With so much stress, it seems that Southern Californians can do with a little rest and relaxation.  A great getaway, either for the day or a weekend, is the 54-acre Costa Mesa Theater & Arts District.  Locals and visitors can stroll the grounds, view sculpture gardens and art galleries, visit world-class theaters and concert halls, dine at five-star restaurants and shop. The spaces in between the buildings in the Theater & Arts District are filled with the beautifully landscaped Town Center Park and a world-class collection of outdoor sculpture.  High-profile artists have contributed to the sculptures, including Richard Serra, Henry Moore, Charles O. Perry and Isamu Noguchi.  Isamu Noguchi created the famed “California Scenario” meditation garden for the Theater & Arts District.  “California Scenario” is Noguchi’s abstract interpretation of California landscape.  Located on 1.6 acres behind the Pacific Arts Plaza, “California Scenario” is considered one of the most important sculptures in Southern California. Plans are underway to expand the Costa Mesa Theatre & Arts District.  In 2013, construction will begin on a new home for the Orange County Museum of Art, which is currently located in Newport Beach.  The new museum is scheduled to open by 2016 and will be wholly owned and operated by the Orange County Museum of Art. The Costa Mesa Theater & Arts District is also home to several performing arts venues, including the Segerstrom Center for the Arts and the South Coast Repertory.  After enjoying the art, food and shopping that the Costa Mesa Arts District has to offer, be sure check out these theaters for some additional entertainment. Have a relaxing time at the Costa Mesa Theatre & Arts District!  If you make a purchase at one of the shops or art galleries, trust the Costa Mesa AIM Mail Center with any shipping and packaging needs.
