The San Jose Glass Artists Alliance is an organization whose members either live in San Jose or create their glass art in San Jose. The organization is a grass roots effort to establish a community of glass artists that help each other, network with each other, and educate the public about glass art.  It also helps meet some of the specific needs of glass artists. One of the projects of the San Jose Glass Artists Alliance is the Art Glass Center of San Jose, which is run by artists and volunteers of the San Jose Glass Artist Alliance. Students and working artists in the facility are available to show off their projects and answer questions for people who drop in.  The purpose of the Art Glass center is to offer the public a place to learn about, create, and view glass art. For those who are curious about working with glass, the Art Glass Center offers a Glass Artist for the Day class.  Participants will receive instruction and all the materials to complete three glass art pieces: one in torch working, one in fused glass, and one in stained glass.  In torch working, students create a pendant, sculpted flower or small animal.  During the fused glass portion of the class, students make a 6 inch tile or dish, and in stained glass, they construct a sun catcher.  The Glass Artist for a Day class is a great way to try out different glass art methods and choose the methods one wishes pursue further.  After completing the Glass Artist for a Day class, students can continue to attend project-based classes at the Art Glass Center. Those who wish to check out the Art Glass Center can tour the Center during the San Jose South First Friday Art Walk, or stop in during the Center’s business hours, Wednesday through Sunday, 1:00pm to 5:00pm.  The center has gallery space where visitors can see examples of glass art, and there is a gift shop where they can pick up their favorites glass art pieces. Have a great time learning to be a glass artist!  If you purchase or create gifts for an out of town loved one, remember that the AIM Mail Center in San Jose can help with packaging and shipping your glass art for safe arrival.
