When you want to look your best, you often turn to a trusted suit. You know that the suit will fit just right, giving you the perfect combination of comfort and confidence. You handle your suit with care because it’s delicate, and any mishap could spell the end of the suit altogether.
That sensitivity makes shipping a suit especially worrisome. But with some finesse and a reliable shipping company, you can ship a suit with full confidence that it will arrive in pristine condition. Here is a simple step-by-step guide to packing and shipping a suit.
- Turn the jacket inside-out. The first step might be the scariest, but trust us on this one. Jackets are resilient, and the fit of the jacket is maintained once completely inside-out. Do not, however, turn the sleeves inside-out.
- Fold the jacket in half vertically. Once the jacket is inside-out, the sleeves will remain on top of the back of the jacket and under the shoulders. Fold each side of the jacket into the middle, making sure to keep the sleeves flat under the fold. You can now easily fold the jacket in half vertically.
- Fold from the bottom of the jacket up to the top. The jacket is now folded in half, which makes it more compact and easier to fold into a more manageable shape without unnecessary creases or rolling. Simply fold the jacket in half starting from the bottom and fold toward the top. This likely will take two folds, but some suits require three. You should be left with a tight rectangle.
- Fold the pants using the creases for a guide. You will fold the pants as you would any other pair of pants. We recommend aligning the creases and folding twice. If you have another method that you prefer, that works too.
- Wrap jacket and pants together. Stack the folded pants on the folded jacket, and wrap in tissue paper or some other thin material. This layer protects the suit while keeping the jacket and pants from shifting during shipping.
- Find the proper shipping box. Now it’s just a matter of finding a shipping box that fits the size of your suit. Slide the wrapped suit into the box, and add foam or tightly packed newspaper for extra padding.
