When someone references “fine art,” images of paintings and sculptures often come to mind. Photography can also be used as a medium to create fine art, as seen through the work of Robert Hansen, a commercial and fine art photographer with over 35 years of experience. Hansen’s work is found in many private and commercial collections throughout the United States, Germany and Mexico. Over the course of his career, Hansen has photographed a variety of subjects all over the American Southwest and Mexico. During one of his major projects, over the course of 10 years, Hansen photographed the Yucatan Peninsula in southern Mexico, capturing dramatic images of missions, haciendas, churches and the Mayan people.
Not just a photographer, Hansen is also a curator of fine art photography. He had an art gallery, The Center for Creative Photography, in San Juan Capistrano, but after moving to Laguna Niguel, he re-opened the gallery in his home and re-named it The R.A. Hansen Gallery. The gallery features Hansen’s personal collection of fine art prints, comprised of his work and the work of other noted contemporary photographers. All of the works on display are available for purchase. Those who want to view the collection can contact Hansen to schedule a visit. Hansen’s photographic work can also be viewed at Art Expressions Gallery in San Diego and The Festival of Arts in Laguna Beach.
Those who are inspired by Hansen’s work and want to learn to create fine art photographs themselves can take photography lessons directly from Hansen. Offering individual and small group lessons in his home studio, Hansen offers thorough instruction on photography techniques and creating personal style. Many of Hansen’s students have gone on to professional careers in photography.
